Hey /antiwork – wanted to crowdsource feedback on this idea. The US is obviously a hot diaper fire (and has been for a while), and the refrain from our politicians is to just keep voting.. meanwhile we are losing voting rights, subjected to gerrymandering, and more.
I propose a general labor strike on Election Day and put forward the following demands from congress:
– from here on out Election Day is a national holiday
– pass voting rights legislation and rebuild voters rights across the country
– ban gerrymandering
– get rid of the filibuster
Everyone in every state walk out – in solidarity for those who aren’t able to make it to the polls for fear of losing their livelihood. Shut the whole country down, build community up to support those who are most vulnerable and may lose jobs, insurance, homes.
I know there is more to this and many of you have more experience- what do you all think? How do we start this?
