On Friday the company I worked for was “forced” to make reductions due to “micros and macros and changes in the econmy”
For background we were a mobile mechanic company, who i wont call out by name. Last year we purchased another mobile mechanic company who offshores their phone calls and all of the mechanics are 1099. (Whereas the original company was w2 workers ) They merged the companies literally last month and suddenly our whole team and side faced massive cuts (including 100% of the phone team) but no one from that company was let go.
Their “macros” were essentially, they realized they could pay a fraction of the cost for labor, at the expense of the customer, and the team who had been loyal to them. There were some who had been with the company for 8 years…from the very start of the organizations creation. Rumor has it the company is looking to sell or partner with Bridgestone, so the success of the company doesn't really matter as long as it LOOKS profitable for Bridgetsone.
It went like this, we were all casually working, somenhours into their day, techs who had company vans were asked to return vans asap, phone agents were actively on calls with customers and started being disabled on all platforms, except the calls of course.
They emailed everyone to let them know they had been terminated, included details to join a conference call, then disabled everyone's emails. A lot of people hadn't even started work for the day and never had the chance to view the email. Conference call the COO muted everyone but himself, informed us that they'd be mailing labels to return company equipment and if you had anything in the office to get it outside of business hours, cause like, they obviously can't look us in the face.
This company had presented itself to be some unicorn that cared about their employees. Health care was free, they often had give aways and would mail out merchandise or gifts, time off requests were approved without BS and they acted like they appreciated everyone as actual living breathing humans instead of work horse employees. They did make a lot of promises for career advancementnand “opportunities” that never arose but pay was decent and people stuck around for the pros. Clearly it was all BS and profit over people prevails.
So that was fun.
Anyway.
Hope ya have the day you deserve Ed.
