We have had a client for a few years. The client is pretty disorganized but we were able to manage well for the first year and a half. The client was happy and we were happy. The client decided that they were happy with the work we were doing so they decided that they wanted to increase the contract. My bosses basically saw money and way overpromised not only what we are capable of but also what the client is capable of.
At this point the entire project is falling apart at the seams. The goals are unreasonable and we have missed goals for several months in a row by a large margin. All the cracks in the project that didn’t really show at the lower workload are now abundantly clear. They keep saying that we are understaffed and that once we get more people we will be in better shape but that doesn’t fix that the project is fundamentally flawed from the core.
This is our only client as a startup and if this were to fail everyone would likely lose their job simply due to the fact that my bosses saw money and jumped in head first. They even had the audacity to say that people just aren’t doing their job. It is way more likely that the whole project is fucked than that an entire team is just not doing their job. At this point we are straight up lying to the client about what we are doing.
They have unreasonable expectations for what each of the employees are capable of. Nobody except maybe the new people have any job satisfaction. We are just miserable.
At what point do I try to get out? I’m afraid that this whole thing is going to completely collapse and I’ll be left not knowing what to do.
