Employer let’s me know 6+ months after being hired I’m a tech II

So I’m in kind of a weird situation, I was hired at a company in May of this year and was under the pretense that I was applying and interviewing for a technician I role. All documentation that was signed at the date of hire was listed as a technician I role, however my boss recently pulled me aside and let me know that “they accidentally meant to hire me as a technician II instead of a tech I”. In a document given to me a few days ago, it states that “your pay rate at this time will not be impacted as you were brought in at the tech II rate upon hire”. My concern with this is that I negotiated with them to get a higher starting hourly rate when I was hired for the tech I role. The justification that I was given a tech II starting rate does not make sense to me as I negotiated my initial rate under the pretense I was being hired for a tech I. Had I known and had the information that I was applying and interviewing for a technician II role, my negotiating power would have been changed. So I am asking, is there anything I can do by going to HR and questioning this change?? I also never signed any documentation that I was hired for a technician II role as well. Thank you all in advance for the help!
