Employer will not allow me to reduce hours, advice?

I’ll keep this brief. I work in the medical field with several years of experience but new to this company with just a few months while I complete the next steps in my medical education. Management style is a dumpster fire. Like everyone else we are short staffed, as people have continued to leave, we were now told “no, we are actually overstaffed’ and no longer even hiring for the position. Even though I was told “we aren’t fully staffed but maybe in a few months” in January, although people have only continued to leave. So we each have exponentially more work to get done in a week and have our managers watching the clock on Friday to make sure we drop what we are doing and clock out because they are not willing to pay overtime…. Since I am also taking classes nearly full time and working full time,…

Since I am also taking classes nearly full time and working full time, it’s all become too much and is really starting to effect me.

I have asked several times to go to 40 hours on a 4 day per week schedule, but have been told several times this is not possible. At this point, I’ve just told them I need to cut my hours back to 35-36 ( even 37) hours per week and it sounds like they will refuse. I realize that this isn’t necessarily a protected right but seems unreasonable and ridiculous. School is a factor but my mental health is also a factor and this isn’t something im willing to just let go at this point.

Advice for approaching this at a meeting with my supervisor tomorrow?

Edit: spelling
