Even the media isn’t all that worth it.

TL;DR Every position gets paid the same at my work. Hello, I work as an editor for a local news station in my city and every single position gets paid the exact same. Tell me how fair it is when someone who works as a PA (Production assistant) is getting paid the same amount of money as a producer of a 4 hour show. It’s a complete nightmare.

For example, a PA only has to roll the prompter for our anchors to read which is a small dial that they turn. That’s it. While a producer has to write, call various people for confirmations on news stories, come in 3 hours early, find the content all themselves like video and photos to use during the show. And it’s all done by one person.

You won’t get stuff like this in higher markets, but this is just the kind of shit we have to deal with. Especially since my station in particular won’t hire anyone to replace the people who have left. Either that or the new hires see the housing prices in our city and just say no.
