Ever notice that people scrape up savings from working, just to buy things that help them cope with working?

I work retail when I’m off from school. My coworkers are nice, but the retail job is rough. I notice my coworkers buy a lot to make the retail workplace better, such as Apple Watches, expensive water bottles, they pick clothes out to be in our limited dress code, including expensive shoes to make it easier to be on their feet all day, etc etc. Not to mention they get exhausted and get fast food from the mall area on bad days, or buy starbies coffee when they have a hellishly early and long shift. To be clear, there’s nothing wrong with their choice to buy something that helps cope. But I can’t help but realize we wouldn’t need the degree of consumerism we partake in if we didn’t work. I know if I wasn’t in school or working I’d probably make more food than my burned out self currently…

I know if I wasn’t in school or working I’d probably make more food than my burned out self currently buys in fast food. I know I’d read more than stream shows. I know I wouldn’t get coffee, especially not from overpriced chains.
