everything at work seems so abstract and with no consequence

i work in a team that supports a team that supports another team. by the time the work arrives in my inbox, any details of what is actually happening have been long lost. i see that dates are being changed and millions of dollars are coming through my eyes. but i don't know anything that went into making the money. all i know are the formulas used to run the spreadsheets. when kpi's aren't met, when things go 'wrong', there is no tie to what happens as a result of these things. for all i know, if i enter a 1 instead of a 2, someone in a factory in africa doesn't get to sleep that day. or it could just be that a warehouse worker in kansas had to spend an extra 5 seconds on a task nobody knows what is going on, there are too many people in…

nobody knows what is going on, there are too many people in this company to keep track of. we are all remote, thousands of us. recently corporate had to take a serious initiative to map out what each corporate employee does and what the hierarchy is. they're 'pretty sure' they got everything.

my company's name is an acronym and the running joke is that no one knows what the letters means. it's funny because it's true. it's like this company's culture is cynicism and nihilism and everybody is on board.

i think it's time to find a new job
