Exempt from breaks

I work at an alternative school in massachusetts. School days are 7.5 hours long with kids arriving/being there for about 7ish hours. The first 30 minutes is reserved for meetings and planning. They say we’re exempt from breaks due to being a school. We do get paid for the full 7.5. I just haven’t heard of not getting a break at all. I’ve worked at another alternative school in the state and it was the same “exempt” but we still got breaks, we were just on-call for them. Aside from being fucked up, anyone have any idea if this is legal? We have a Union and apparently they are “fighting for breaks” so they are aware.
