Expected to not clock in for arriving an hour early to do a company photo.

For reference, we’re a very small business of 6 total people including the two owners. So yeah, she thought we “were volunteering our time for this” because the photos are for Christmas cards to give to customers. So I clocked back out and promptly put my hands in my pockets while my bosses set up the camera etc. My coworkers arrived and did not clock in. After about 10 minutes of me doing exactly nothing, my boss tells me I can clock in if I want to. I’m sorry for writing this weirdly, I just. What the shit? What the absolute fuck did my boss think I was gonna do after arriving at work? This is still work. Believe it or not, EVERYTHING I do for our customers is work, and I should be paid for it! It’s so weird how jobs involve getting paid for labor, even if that labor is signing 15 cards and taking a silly photo with my coworkers an hour before I usually get here. I already make a starting-wage with no benefits after years with the company, why the fuck would I “volunteer” my time?

I can’t wait to quit after my vacation next month.
