Today I told my students that I was very tired marking a few hundred exam essays over a couple of working days (ridiculous, I know) and that I would really appreciate them cooperating with me today. One of them responded, “Why are you complaining? It’s your job.” That really crushed me. The failure of society to recognise labour rights will only perpetuate this horrendous cycle among our young.
