A former company I worked for was the absolute worst. If you have any vacation time when you leave the company, they will pay you out for that time on your last pay check. When a coworker put in their 2 weeks notice, he was set to leave with a Wednesday being his last day. He had nearly 3 weeks of vacation he would be paid out when he left. But the company was short-handed so they asked him to stay until that Friday, which he agreed to. 2 weeks pass and that Thursday (which would have been the day AFTER he was already gone had he left when he originally put in his 2 weeks) they fired him and he lost all his vacation time. They fired him because he “wasn’t doing his job”, but we found out a year or two later that his immediate boss got him fired by higher-ups because she didn’t like him and her plan was to extend his time so they could fire him before he could leave with the extra money. Her plan worked and he got nothing. And his immediate boss is also responsible for no fewer than 7 people quitting their jobs and leaving. HR and higher ups refuse to do anything about her because they feel it’s better to keep her than the younger people who they feel would quit anyway.
