I have been with my current employer for the last 7.5 years. I (33M) have just been offered a new position, with a 35K pay increase, in a field I haven't ever been in before.
I am terrified to say the least. BUT, I need a change and the salary would help me considerably…
I have been the supply chain manager for a small cancer center for the last 6 years. Errr I am sorry, “Not a supply chain manager, but a manager of the supplies” per my manager… Anyway. I applied at a new company, and interviewed 6 times until I received a call and an offer letter from company X.
The new company has me starting on March 13th (AWESOME).
However, have over 150 hours of PTO that I will be losing because this company doesn't pay out PTO, and will not allow PTO to be used after resignation has been issued.
I take full responsiblity in not taking much PTO this year, because well, it is only Febuary AND I wasn't even sure about getting a new position. I have NOT mentioned this job to anyone at work, and they have no idea that I will be leaving soon.
This morning, I read the employee handbook and realized that if I want any my PTO. I must take the next two following weeks off. Even then, I would still have a substantial amount of PTO hours remaining after. Problem is, I will be starting my new job in 20 days from today. If I use my PTO, I wont have a chance to submit a 2 week notice.
Options:
I could request the remainder of the week off, as well as the following two weeks. Then starting my new postion without leaving a notice at all.
Or, I submit a 2 weeks notice first thing Monday the 27th, and work straight through to the new position.
Somthings to consider:
-My job responsiblity has been reduced significantly, and I have very little to do these days.
-The organization I currently work for has been decent, Not great, but decent.
-No one would have to pick up any slack as a result of me leaving.
– I have applied for countless positions at current company without success and realized I am no longer growing.
-Current manager is really great, other manager is a total power tripping jerk.
I am feeling super guilty if I decided to take the time off, but then again, I am tired of bending over backwards for a company that doesn't care to progress, or challenge me.
Opinions?
TL:DR
Quitting an old job, and I want to use my remaining PTO, but I will not be able to submit a two weeks notice if I do that.
