I’ve been working for a while as a consultant at a place and my contract was coming to an end. I didn’t mind the job, it was doable (a bit stressful ofc) but hours were good as a contractor. I received an offer to work there permanently at that role for less money, significantly worse hours (I’d have to work weekends and evening and my commute is 6 hours overall). I said I’d be ok if I could do the late shifts from home or having the possibility to only commute once a week as it’s a job I can do remotely and this was rejected. Felt like overall a bad deal from being a contractor which regular hours working from home. Still I feel guilt and shame for saying no. I’m not saying I don’t appreciate the offer but why does it feel like companies refuse to accommodate workers’ needs, even when quite reasonable?
