Feeling too discouraged to continue my contract.

I apologize in advance for any bad grammar or misspellings. I currently work as a contractor for a well-known global retailer. My contract was renewed for my current position through October. However, at the same time I also learned that it would be the last time it gets renewed. It caught me off guard. I’ve had regular check-ins since I started this project in December of 2022. The check-ins were always positive. However, from the start there were issues at the top that prevented me from doing the bulk of what was expected of me for the project I was hired to do. I always voiced those concerns on my end, but things got addressed at a molasses-like pace, and only when it was convenient for the ones above me.

Now here we are, approximately 7 months later, and I’m being told that I am no longer needed by the team that initiated my contract. For added context, the team that initiated my contract (we’ll call them The Digital Team) isn’t the same team that I worked with, or reported to on a daily basis (we’ll call them The Marketing Team). I have no idea who even makes up The Digital Team, yet they are the ones who’ve made the decision that I’m no longer needed after October.

I didn’t even interview with The Digital Team, I interviewed with The Marketing Team. The Marketing Team essentially took me in like a stray, knowing they had no power to decide whether or not I continued working with the company. The Marketing Team also had no line of sight for the project I was hired for and therefore could provide very little support for the logistics issues my part of the project had from the moment I arrived. The Marketing Team also knew they had no budget to bring me on for a non-contract job once this project was completed. Yet, this entire time I was given the impression that my job was secured.

I’m trying to seek more answers as to what lead The Digital Team to make this decision. It could be budgetary, or it could be something that was completely within my control. Who ever they are and whatever the reason, they never spoke to me one-on-one about my experience or lack of support before making this choice. I’m just the worker at the bottom that gets the boot after thinking briefly “I’ve finally made it”. The “Corporate” world, really sucks.

I’m wondering if there are any other contractors out there who have had experiences similar to this? If so, I’d appreciate any sound advice for navigating this type of set back.
