Back in July 2022, my husband tested positive for Covid on a Sunday. I immediately texted my boss that day and said he was sick and I was exposed. I asked what the protocol was (she refused to tell me when I started). She told me to stay home that week and continue to test.
I tested and was getting very sick (this was my first bout with Covid so I had no clue what I was in for). On Wednesday I was dying. Tested positive on at-home test. And I drove to the local pharmacy for a legit PCR test (I shouldn’t have drove. I was in bad shape). I got the results Friday morning. Positive. I texted my boss. She said “what are you going to do?” I told her what the Dept of Health told me. My 5 days would be up Monday but preferably to stay home if i continue with a fever. Saturday I received a box of desk belongings. With no explanation. I was on my way to urgent care and found it by my door.
I texted my boss asking if she fired me because I was sick with Covid. 9 hours later she said there was a letter in the mail and wouldn’t explain shit. I couldn’t go to urgent care. I didn’t know if I had insurance anymore.
Monday evening I got the letter. The box and letter were sent right after I told her I was positive (date & time stamped). In my state Covid is a temporary disability and the law states we have the right to job protection.
I sent complaints to the various state agencies. All said they were not handling those, except one. And that agency is bogged down. The attorney I spoke to said i absolutely have a case and he wants to represent me. I’m so happy.
I was illegally fired. And was also fired for complying with what they told me to do. So not right.
