Finally left toxic workplace, now need tips for negotiating salary at new job!

Hey all, After 6 years of being just a number in a toxic corporate workplace I finally had the courage to quit thanks to all of you! The last straw was when another employee quit and I was told I’d have to take over her work as well without any extra pay, because the budget didn’t allow for any new hires before the end of the financial year. I was also definitely not getting paid what I deserved for the work I did as well. I decided to bite the bullet and apply for a position where my passion really lies. When I applied the salary guide was around 100k AUD, which is actually really great for the industry (usual salaries are around 70-80k, if that and most are casual, where I will be full time), however the job listing said they were open to negotiations in regards to salary.…

Hey all,

After 6 years of being just a number in a toxic corporate workplace I finally had the courage to quit thanks to all of you!

When I applied the salary guide was around 100k AUD, which is actually really great for the industry (usual salaries are around 70-80k, if that and most are casual, where I will be full time), however the job listing said they were open to negotiations in regards to salary.

After an interview on Friday, I got a call today saying that the job was mine if I wanted it, and they asked me to go in on Thursday to go over the finer details and discuss salary and benefits. It’s a family owned business but they all seem so lovely and I’m really excited about this new position. I just don’t know if I should try and negotiate my salary like they said they were open to, or say that I’m happy with the 100k (which I would be really happy with anyway).

Its not really something I’ve ever done before and I don’t want to come across as hard work or anything. They also have said that I’ll have 6 weeks leave each year instead of the standard 4, and work hours can be flexible a majority of the time.

I’m really stuck on whether to try and negotiate a bit, or just stay with what it is. Any tips would be appreciated!

If it matters the job is working in the horse industry
