Years ago I worked for a large agricultural equipment company. I had told my boss I had jury duty, as soon as I received the letter. Awhile later this boss got a promotion and her old boss was now loosely my boss. I followed up with the new boss, letting them know of the jury duty.
The week before jury duty started I sent out a reminder email to both my old boss and new boss. The 3rd day I get a call from the company I was contracted through, saying the company was letting me go for not telling them I had jury duty. Which right away was strange because if they didn’t know I had jury duty then why were they letting me go for not telling them.
From my understanding this was illegal so I forwarded all of the emails between my bosses and I, to my personal email, before returning my computer. I called HR multiple times and never got a call back. I then called around to probably 10-12 different lawyers and left messages and never received a call back. I did call the court house and asked if they had any suggestions on lawyers since I couldn’t get ahold of anyone. A judge later called me back and said there was nothing he could do without me taking it to court, which wasn’t even what I called and asked about.
After that I just gave up because my friend made a good point that even if I got the job back, my work life probably wouldn’t be very good.
