Fired for not being 5 minutes early to the shift?

I drive my boyfriend to work every day. He’s been “late” (read: not exactly 5 minutes early to his scheduled shift) a few times in the past two weeks. It seems their clock is fast because apparently he’s been “late” 12 times in a row which I know for a fact is not true. I’ve dropped him off at least 6 minutes before it starts more than once. They’re threatening to fire him if he’s “late” again. We are coming up on a blizzard where I live and a few times that he’s been “late” to my knowledge has been due to the weather. To be clear: He has not once arrived past the time that his shift actually begins that I’m aware of. Im not sure what to do. Not only is he being punished for ME not being on schedule, but he hasn’t even actually clocked in late.…

Not only is he being punished for ME not being on schedule, but he hasn’t even actually clocked in late. He’s also stayed super late more than once in this time period.

To be clear too, they switch his schedule up daily and almost every day I work a completely different shift at my own job. I have to get up in the morning, drive him to work and then come home and go back to bed so that I can get to my own job in the afternoon. Sometimes he has to wait hours for me to be able to pick him up because they send him off after the bus stops doing rounds. It’s a pretty difficult setup but we’re trying to make it work, and with the unpredictable winter weather it’s just difficult to get there early every day. And they don’t care.

This is literally a part time job that pays 13$ an hour. They’re so short staffed that they accidentally hired a 13 year old (illegal) because they rushed through her application and didn’t check her age beforehand. Most of the staff are minors because they can’t hire adults, but they need adults on staff so that the minors can be supervised. They just lost two more adult employees last week. And they’re threatening to fire my (adult) boyfriend over this.

Is this even legal if he hasn’t been actually late? I’ve literally never heard of anyone being fired for not being early. It’s so ridiculous.
