I was a cameraman at a local news station until I was fired yesterday for speeding in a company vehicle. My reporter dicked around all day and gave me all the materials I needed to edit our story late. She is leaving for a different station on Tuesday, and explicitly said she’s doing the bare minimum and that the news director can “suck a dick”
I would have been the one chewed out if we were not at our live location on time, so yes I sped, because my reporter didn’t give a shit about her job anymore.
Any other day I am following the speed limit to the T. My boss framed it as a safety concern, despite there being employees who have caused visible damage to the vehicles, broken mirrors off, etc. and are still employed.
It would have been nice if they were at least honest with me and said “we’re actually too cheap to repair or replace anything around here. We give even less of a shit if you’re alive or dead as long as your content is making the station money”.)
I will be going through every employee from Human Resources until they hear me out. Termination should not be the first step when there has never been a write-up or reprimand of any kind previously. Hell, tell me I can’t come back to work until I’ve completed a defensive driving class with my own money, don’t fire me right before Christmas you fucking monsters.
