So I turned in my two week notice, which the employee handbook says I'm supposed to do in order to receive my due commissions and such. I have an opportunity to essentially be self employed but I needed the next couple of weeks to get it going and to start a second shift side job to hold down the fort while it does. I turned it in on Friday.
Well, I worked a whole shift today. Now, I know I owe nothing to the slaver class, but i actually really like my manager. She has taken good care of me to the best of her ability despite the owner enforcing policies that are just straight up harmful to her staff and her business. I planned to genuinely do my job for the next two weeks so she could facilitate a hand off to my replacement and I could go on my merry way.
After working a full day, I get a text that the owner has been all over her for the last hour about not following procedure and how she is to let anyone go who turns in their notice immediately.
Now, the owner is on her about 14th week of vacation this year. Not exaggerating, she winters in Florida and still takes vacations at her leisure throughout the year while the people who have been doing this for multiple decades only get 10 paid days off a year. Yes, that includes sick time and any other personal or emergency matters. She took the time out of her day to find service while she's cruising the Caribbean and enjoying life to tell my boss to fire me.
I'm disgusted with this world. If I didn't have a plan in place, this woman would have just ruined me. I don't understand how we are supposed to just keep existing like this with these people having so much power over our lives. I struggle to find any value in continuing on some days, because my only value to the world has always been the wealth I provide others. This. Is. Disgusting.
