(I've attempted to post this question in several subs within the last 24 hrs stressing out, but while a long-shot, hopefully now that this post is finally out, I can get some advice and help.)
I have a trans daughter who suffers depression that I and her doctor have attempted to stabilize, but the ongoing bullying, and general negativity toward trans folks, as well as the actions of my states government, have made that difficult. Sadly, the workplace is no exception.
My boss already knows of my child but always acted neutral, though disapproving. Recently, due to difficulties getting her the care she needs in my state, and the costs, I'd been planning to purchase her treatments in another state nearby, where costs would be cheaper since my Insurance doesn't cover the entire cost here. That'd reduce the costs to $180-$200 compared to costing 6x as much or more if I tried to get the same treatments here.
Taking the initiative to help my family went too far with my boss, he finally flipped & told me he wants to run a place of “decency” and doesn't want this “satanic”(?) behavior promoted as “fine” in the workplace. After a small argument, he told me further discussion would result in my firing, even said “stop being a N—– your kids not a girl & you know it!” to me. I did record some of the conversation on my phone, but found out my state has a two-party consent law, legal reps I contacted won't touch it.
I got terminated next day anyway. The reason falsely reported by my boss, was that I falsely clocked in through mobile (something I have never done once in my career), and wasn't actually present at work on my previous shift. This is entirely false, likely because he knows he couldn't get away with firing me based on his discrimination, so he created a fake report. Sadly, I can't prove he lied because there's only cameras at the registers not in the areas i work in clothing and such. I contacted HR to investigate, but was later rejected as they always side with management.
Assistance programs take months for approval, some won't accept when they find out my child is trans. I've called & emailed many resources but no luck yet on any that can help short-term. Not being able to help my child scares me, after talking with her doctor I was told that if treatments aren't consistent there can be side-effects, but also changes in behavior or further depression, which could lead to suicidal thoughts.
But now that I have to find a new job, and there's no program that can deal with the treatments short-term, especially since my state makes that intentionally difficult, I can't afford the $200 for my child's health anymore after the job loss, and have to limit expenses now potentially putting my child in jeopardy. Even some of the legal reps I contacted told me helping my child transition was “child abuse” and hung up. It's almost like my entire state has no problem with seeing trans kids suffer,
I'm just not sure what to do, it's terrible how much hatred there is just for being a parent trying to make sure their kid is happy & healthy. I hear about 'free speech', but apparently I can lose my job just trying to save the life of my own child because some prefer to be bigots, and they clearly don't care about the health of children. Everything is falling apart
