So I've been struggling like mad to find employment of any kind. I came out of college with a 2-year diploma in IT, but with nothing to show for it since I didn't have the extremely focused skillsets to get a relevant job in my field; my courses took a buckshot philosophy. Since I have to go to college soon – I got a deferral for next fall, but my parents refuse to help me pay any longer – I don't necessarily think 'working on a side project' like everyone begs me to is a very good or profitable idea until I have settled down for at least a bit. I need money, and I need it ASAP.
Luckily, I get picked up by a big name marketing associates company, and get assigned to outbound sales within 2 weeks following a pinch of (thankfully PAID) training. The first week of work goes quite well, and aside from some intermittent coaching that provides me with some much-needed reading tips that ultimately net me a few sales over the week's course, all seems well.
Today? Ignoring the fact that I was only paying 70% attention, apparently not. I go to ask my supervisor if I can correct a service renewal for a customer I spoke to, whom I believe I misheard the credit card number of, and without any prior warning, I am pulled into a remote meeting room and terminated on the spot. For 'using an expletive in a call'. On Friday, I must have said 'shit' in my frustration with the processing system or something, but that was not directed towards the customer at all. They didn't coach or correct or warn me, as I thought was procedure. They let me go on the spot. I never even heard of such a fate being the case in fucking training.
I've been flustered and easily agitated all week just because I'm sick as a dog and also just agitated having to mind the family house by myself while everyone else is gone for a trip they're just now returning from after nearly a week. On top of that, I have no way to keep the income rolling.
Does anyone have any words of advice / consolation for me? I really need them. And on a separate note: I now see why you guys hate corporations.
EDIT: I'm also left with a harsh dilemma for my resume. Include this job, immediately get pressed for its length. Exclude it, I now have an unexplained 4-month gap.
