Hey all, this is the sub for this. Not a rant but a concerted and directed breakdown of this
I've used Fiverr for a long time, as a buyer longer than a seller.
I've never noticed how fucked it really is.
I post orders for $50. now the buyer pays $52.75 and expects that much in work, while we are only receiving $40 after it's all said and done. I never knew they charge both parties until recently.
my complaint isn't the amount
but the buyer expects more work, and they did pay for it, but we're getting far less. Say I'm imagining myself at 20 / hr, this is the difference between 2 hours and 2 and a half hours.
It creates a weird space because they want and expect more from us, but we aren't getting that much
and man, I've been one to ask for revisions, but some of these people ask for multiple revisions on a $25 order. it's crazy. don't even get me started on that lol. that's why I upped it to 50.
In fact, on a $25 order, it's almost more egregious because they charge 5.5% plus an additional $2 flat if it's less than $50. So a $25 order becomes $28.375 and we're only getting $20 out of it. Here it's almost a 2/3rds of a difference. So they're expecting $30 work and we're only getting $20
It's really egregious if you ask me, because their work on 'maintaining the platform' is pretty minimal. to charge both parties this high on an order is some awful double dipping.
Upwork is significantly better in this regard. Even before their recent changes, they basically take 10% from sellers and charge 5% to buyers.
the additional $2 is ridiculous, kills the point of small orders at like $10, because they become $12.55 and now Fiverr is only paying the seller $8.
Really ridiculous.
What are all your thoughts? I'm sure we got some Fiverr workers here
