I am a (underpaid by about 16k a year) wastewater technician at a rail car cleaning company . My boss has repeatedly said he hates paying me to “turn knobs” all day. Not understanding how precisely I have to balance hazardous chemicals to maintain compliance with the city. Well he finally bought a system to automate my job. He is under the impression that once the system is going it will adjust the chemicals output itself and all I will have to do is turn it on in the morning and turn it off at night freeing me up to help clean the train cars (not the job I was hired for) however that's not what the system does. Sure it will do the lions share of the work it will monitor chemical output and cut back on the testing I would have to do daily but there still needs to be a human to fine tune it and monitor and adjust it when it goes out of balance which since we work with so many different types of waste will probably happen every 45 minutes to every hour. Before I started he was getting fines from the city every other week.

I've already accepted another position with a 15k salary increase my background check will clear on Monday and he will be receiving a two week notice from me. If he asks me to train anyone else I will quit on the spot and make them learn the job the same way I did. Through trial and error.
