My current job (large employee owned engineering company), is removing the “remote” profile I was hired as and forcing us back into office by January 8th. We have a new president and CEO who previously has stated that he did not plan to change our virtual work style, mentioning that the company wants to keep a flexible work-life balance for their employees. On Dec. 1st, we received the email stating that was no longer the case and were getting a month's notice to find a way to get into the office. I am distraught as I was set to buy a home in April and am paid 23 USD per hour and am not going to be able to afford my own car on top of a house or apartment payment. This steals my life goals of the past two years, and I am devastated. I am going to have to buy a car to get to work, to pay off the car I will only use for work, not to mention I am 30 miles from the office, which is an hour-long drive there on a good day. This decision has caused an outrage from employees, and we are not being listened to. (So much for “employee owned”). There has been no following answers from our president, causing further rage. I hate how the stability and love for my job has been ripped away from me with no time to even process it. It feels like a waste of 2 years and my life goals.
