I(F24) have never wanted this position.
So, I started at my company making bottom dollar less than a year ago. In that time, they laid off 20+ people including our manager. As a result, because I am the lowest paid person, my manger’s boss started putting all of my (now ex) manager’s position on me.
Mind you, I also go to college throughout the week.
No pay. No title upgrade. At first, I didn’t mind helping make up some smaller tasks. Then, she dropped everything on me. Managing the department with people who seniors my position by decades. (My immediate team doesn’t mind. However, a lot of other departments are non-compliant with anything I say, even if it’s coming directly from her).
I’m now working 60 hours a week while going to college full time. When I asked for a raise/title upgrade, I was told I was lucky they were working with my school schedule and paying me through experience. (No, I can’t just quit my job. Yes, I’m applying elsewhere.) I’m starting to feeling burnt out, because I’m never getting a break or proper training. I am also expected to continue doing the job I was hired for, too. I’m doing the work of multiple people. I’m coming in on my weekends off. I asked if we could look at hiring someone and they told me no because of “budget” which, we just laid off over 20+ people and hired a bunch of people. None to help my department.
I’m torn because they work with my school schedule but they’re also abusing me being lower paid. (I don’t think I should make what my colleagues who senior me are. However, I SHOULD be paid for the work I am doing.)
