I (27M) have worked for a very big company for almost 2 years now (Pinterest) in the state of Utah.
Recently I am on the chopping block for breaking their rules of engagement while reaching out to paid advertisers and doing the job of other positions because they don’t do their job correctly.
That’s fine. I broke rules. I get it. I’ve been waiting for over a week now to find out my final notice. I’ve asked to use my PTO so I can find a new job while awaiting my destiny at this job.
My position is just a number. I’m no one special at the company, my presence doesn’t change the way their day works. I’m being forced to still come in and sit in the office, taking no calls, while awaiting their decision. I am one of only 5 people who have been there for over a year, there are about 250 people in my position. When I expressed to the person wanting to fire me my loyalty to the company and want to keep moving forward working here. She cut me off to say “I’m stopping you there, you haven’t been loyal, you’ve been employed stop the act”
TLDR: Anyways. I am getting laid off of a job I’ve been loyal to for 2 years, the laid off process is very slow, I am trying to find a new position, I have a wife and kids I need to take care of, and they’re not allowing me to use my PTO I am entitled to, while I try to find something to keep my family alive. All while forcing me to come into the office and just sit there for 8 hours not taking any calls or doing my general duties while also telling me they’re waiting for HR to finalize the termination.
Am I missing something? AITA?? I don’t understand what to do or what the proper things I’m actually entitled to or what next steps I should be doing. Questions? Feel free to ask.
