hi all, i am in a unique situation and would love some advice for those who have been in a similar position.
i have been working as a Project Engineer for Company X for 1.5 years, entry level, 0 experience prior and was hired for 55k base starting. My Company X is now going through an acquisition and is now considered to be a part of Company Y. Company Y stated at the beginning of the acquisition (this January 2023) that there will be salary adjustments at some point in the year (not sure if or when this will happen, should I approach HR?). Because of the acquisition happening at the beginning of this year where normally performance reviews and raises take place, I was told by my boss that he put in a request for a raise for me however, not too sure what's going to happen given everything going on.
I go on Indeed.com and see a job posting for my exact position and location with Company Y with a salary range listed for 65k – 80k a year, 10k more than I make now. I am not sure whether or not to trust these numbers because I'm not sure if these are Indeed.com guestimates, or if this salary range was listed by my (now) employer.
However…..
I then go on my now Company Y's website and see the job posting for my position but different location (In California. I live in Michigan, but the whole company is remote) and since salaries are now required to be shown on job listing in the state of California, I see the salary range listed as 67k – 80k and I think I can trust these numbers.
How do I approach my boss about this? Should I approach my boss about this? Side note (if it matters), I am on very good terms with my boss, who always looks out for me, and told me about the original (potential) raise request without me asking, and has also given me generous bonuses and allows me to work remote wherever and take my PTO whenever I want without any issues ever, but my base salary has not changed since I started and the 2023 market rate in this industry now for my position in the Midwest (where I live) is at 60k – 65k, at least 5k more than what I make now.
Thank you kindly for reading, and please let me know your thoughts! This is my first professional career straight out of college, so I am quite inexperienced when it comes to situations like this.
Side Note: That I am aware of, I do not think I will be losing my job. My boss has been upfront and honest about all of the changes happening and has told me that if there is anything that I should know about, he'd let me know. I have also been very recently assigned new projects with bigger responsibilities as my boss is slowly training me to move into a Project Manager position (this has been previously discussed and has been slowly been executed).
