Friend got in trouble at their new job for sitting down to get something out of their shoe.

I’m lucky enough to be self employed and hearing my friends work story tonight just baffles me. He’s 3wks into this new job at a factory. It’s a pretty physically demanding job but he likes all the people there so far. He says his managers have been great to him so far and they all get along. But tonight he gave him a hard time because I sat down for a couple seconds to get something out of his shoe. Nothing crazy, just being told not to do that sort of thing. But it reminded me just how fucking weird employers expectations can be. Why is standing so enforced while working? I know that you shouldn’t just take a 5er and not do your duties. But even sitting long enough to fix a shoe is punished just the same. If the work gets done, who cares. People sit, that’s what…

If the work gets done, who cares. People sit, that’s what they do. I don’t see the problem as long as the job gets done at the end of the day.

It’s stories like his that remind me of all the dumb shit at work and it makes me thankful I no longer have to deal with any of it anymore.

Please, let me know what you think about employers obsession with standing at work and where it came from.
