Friend’s company sold and they are losing their position and put on part time. Can they get unemployment if they haven’t been fired?

This is in Florida. Company was bought out and the new management is not good. The role my friend is redundant and they are forcing them to go part time, but are unwilling to fire them because they still have a lot of knowledge they are getting off of them. Anyone know what options they have in regards to quitting but getting unemployment?
