Any genuine explanations as to why the following has become rampant on LinkedIn?
-
Company puts out job ad.
-
Managing Director / HR / employees / someone reposts with “Great opportunity! Looking for people to join our team! We are growing like crazy and are looking for great candidates. Reach out to me anytime!”
-
I reach out to them with a personalized connection message.
-
They accept.
-
I send them a personalized longer message. Sometimes with questions about the role. Sometimes asking for a quick coffee chat. Sometimes to just ask them about their experience at company X so far, as I'd like to apply.
-
They always just answer: “Thank you for your interest. Please apply through our website. If you pass the screening, we'll reach out to you”
Fuck off. What usually happens next: either no invitation at all, OR six rounds of interviews spread over 2-4 months, followed by ghosting or an automated “we've so many great applicants for this role and had to pick someone else, but you have an amazing profile”. What is extra frustrating: most of the time no one gets hired at all it seems, and the roles just keep being reposted for several month. (The most extreme culprit is now at 9 months advertising the role, without having hired anyone. I have a personal connection in that team that told me so.)
So, dear r/antiwork, can you help me out here? I'd genuinely want to understand a bit better:
-
Why do people post a role, offering a personal chat, then never actually offer it?
-
Maybe my messages to them are not good. What should I reply?
-
Why do so many companies say they are growing/building a team, but then do not hire a single person in over half a year?
