Today was my last day at a job I've worked for 12 years. I'm 31 and worked at a factory since I graduated high school. I gave this place my knees, my wrists, and a marriage. I gave a two weeks notice, as for as long as I've been there the rule was if you give two weeks you'll get the rest of your vacation time paid out on your last pay check.
The rule changed and no one was I formed.
Not only did I give them a useless 2 week notice, I found out any vacation you used over a certain amount get TAKEN OUT of your last check. Having worked there 12 years, I've accumulated 4 weeks of vacation that renews every January 1st. I had 2 weeks left, which I was going to use to take a week off and pad my bank account with until I find more work.
At 10:30 am EST someone asked why I was still there, seeing as it was my last day. I said “for the vacation pay out”. They laughed and said “they don't pay out vacation anymore”. When I asked managers and eventually HR, they confirmed this. I then went to my direct supervisor and asked if they knew, to which I was told yes they knew and was instructed not to tell me.
So not only do I not get the $1000 in vacation time, because I used 16 hours of vacation time more than the amount they pay out, they'll be taking 16 hours pay from my last pay check.
I worked 2 days for free and no one said a word.
I'm devastated.
