I used to work at a nursing home and during the height of Covid we were required to come in and test twice a week, whether we were scheduled to work or not.
I showed up at 7am to test on my day off and had recently lost my voice due to allergy/sinus issues that I get literally every time the seasons change. I knew this is what it was so I let my boss know when I arrived to get my in-house test.
She told me she couldn’t test me if I was sick (??) and told me I couldn’t come back until I went and got tested for Covid somewhere els (????). Apparently this was corporates rule. I had also been tested just 2 days prior. I understand taking precautions why refuse to test me and know for sure within 15 minutes? At this time testing was even done outside in the parking lot and my boss had on full PPE.
So I went to urgent care, sat in the waiting room for 2 hours, paid $50, and had to wait 5 days before I got my negative test results back. Missed 3 shifts over it.
Icing on top of the cake was how damn stingy corporate was over hazard pay. At one point all but 5 residents (in a 90-bed facility) had Covid, so if you got stuck on the non-Covid hall you didn’t get hazard pay. They also did not extend hazard pay to maintenance, housekeeping, and kitchen staff. Fucking joke. So glad I got out of there.
