fun quitting tale

No real point to this, just a bit of fun, thought I'd share. A few years ago I was looking for work. I applied for and got a job with a retail building supplier. I went for my first day and it was alright. The work kind of sucked, all day lugging around drywall etc. But the guys I was working with were nice. 2nd day was fine, but on the third day, the manager come out a bit after lunch and says that there's some late deliveries coming in tomorrow and we'll have to stay until 6. Now when I'd applied I'd been told that we worked 7:30 – 4:30 and we got paid by the day not by the hour. So I ask how we get compensated for the extra 1.5 hours.

They tell me that the 4:30 is more of a guideline and you stay until the work's done. My obvious follow up question is if the works done early can we leave before 4:30? No of course not.

I woke up the next morning and decided that I wasn't keen on that idea, I rocked up really early so that I could see the manager in person and basically said thanks for the opportunity but this job isn't for me, I just wanted to let you know in person.

Manager goes; you said that you'd be able to work the public holiday though can you still do that? (I had said i would do this on the first day)

Bear in mind I'd been there 3 days and this holiday was in 3 weeks.

I said, no… I'm quitting.

Manager goes, but you said you would work it we dont have any one else. Goes back and forth for a bit before I go, sure no problems I'll work it.

Fast forward 3 weeks, I'm at home never having had any intention of going back, and I get the call I've been expecting

Manager, OP where are you?

Me, oh yeah sorry, I'm sick.

Manager, you didn't work long enough to build any sick days, you won't get paid.

Me, OK cool. Bye.

They still hadn't paid me for the 3 days I worked, I'm assuming as leverage to get me to come in. Long story short I sent them a letter threatening legal action if I didn't get paid within a week.

Money in my account the next day
