I currently have a job as a receptionist at a plastic surgery clinic, and here is a non-exhaustive list of my duties:
– Being the only person who works at the clinic so essentially being a manager!
– Receptionist duties (answering phones, scheduling, answering emails and texts)
– Sterilization of surgical instruments (that are bloody!)
– Sizing patients for breast implants
– Filling out medical documents
– Accounts payable and receivable
– Cleaning the entire clinic incl. bathroom
– Managing Dr’s schedule at the surgery centre
– Communicating with suppliers for implant orders, medical supply orders, office supply orders, and so on
– French/English translation
– Dealing with biohazard waste w/out proper equipment
– Keeping the Dr on time because he does not allow me to book longer appointments even though he always goes over time
– Dealing with angry patients for above reason
– Dealing with the Dr’s bad moods
– Changing things I was told to do X way because the Dr decided he never said that and I’m supposed to do it Y way
– And more! (Like being micromanaged!)
I make $18/hour plus discretionary quarterly bonuses (which admittedly are generous at around 40%) but… I HAVE ZERO BENEFITS! Sick? I work or don’t get paid (and if I don’t work, the clinic has to close). No insurance (in Canada so less make or break than the US). I’m not even an actual permanent employee, I’m on a one year contract for who knows what reason.
I applied to EA jobs and accepted an offer for $65k, paid comprehensive health/dental, remote/light hybrid, long/short-term disability insurance (I pay), $2k home office budget ($500 in subsequent years), MacBook Pro 16”, reimbursement for any softwares and business-related expenses, 4 weeks PTO minimum, 8 weeks extra mat leave on top of 1 year from govt, full payment of my tuition and any related education I want… And I’m confident I’ll be making close to 6 figures (if not 6 figs) by this time next year.
DO NOT SETTLE FOR LESS THAN YOU DESERVE!
