Getting rehired by a company that laid me off?

Previously in May I was laid off from an automotive company due to budget cuts. It was extremely sudden, and I had only been there a month. My direct manager had no idea of the cuts, I was laid off by a different departments manager that day. After the event, he called me and said he would do everything in his power to get me hired back & that it should not have been me that was laid off. Fast forward to now, and he has reached out that a position is opening up. He had been in contact with me on & off this entire period of unemployment. I have been trying to apply to other jobs with no real leads. Here’s my dilemma: 1) I genuinely enjoyed the job & work flow. I also really loved my team and coworkers. Would it be bad of me to go…

Here’s my dilemma:

1) I genuinely enjoyed the job & work flow. I also really loved my team and coworkers. Would it be bad of me to go back? How would I ask for job security? Could I ask for a formal contract? I have no experience in this type of matter.

2) if I did go back there are two things to consider: they have moved locations to 10 minutes further from my house, causing a 20min commute to become a 30minute commute. I would also want a raise of some sort, I was hired at 19hr. However, they would not have to train me, so perhaps I could use that as a bargaining tool?

I have a few days until HR contacts me to get the ball rolling. I would love any insight into what y’all think of the situation.
