So I've been working in a roadside retail store for 2 weeks now and suddenly the rules about how employees can present themselves have changed.
Bit of context, I've got a couple face piecing, generally have my nails painted to some degree and wesr a promise ring.
Well during my interview I asked was it OK to have all these things while working? They told me yes just don't go overboard and keep it somewhat lowkey looking. Fair enough that's what I expected. Turns out about half the people who work here have altrast 1 of the 3 things I mentioned.
Well today the manager let us all know that, that's changing. No piecings, no rings other than wedding ring and no painted nail. I feel completely lied to, for me being able to express myself with simple things like that is a huge win! (I've gone through a lot of struggle regarding my own identity and am finally in a place where I feel I can own it) and to just have the place I work do a heel turn and take that away from me hurts so fucking much.
I help them run a business! They don't get to fuck me around with promises of being OK with expressing myself and my identity then change there mind before I've even been there a month!
Some of the best interactions I've had with customers are about complimenting jewellery and stuff and now that's all gone too.
Sorry this turned into more of a rant than i meant it. Just pissed, they dont get to make me cry when I make them money .
