Go to College

Go to college I was told. Earn a degree and come out of school with a 40,000 dollar a year job. Would you look at that, I listened. I did what I was told, I went the extra mile along the way and got 4 internships. I graduated in 2019 in a field I hate, got a job I hated, and got my 40k. Now, I’ve changed fields from business to social work essentially, and make 46k. It’s not enough.

I have gotten to a point in life where I need to go on medical leave one to two times a year for mental health reasons. Most times it’s unpaid cuz I jump job to job due to mental health reasons. I can’t stand living in this world where I can’t support myself or loved ones. I have a fiancé, she struggles financially too, I suppose it’s us now. Am I wrong here or was 46 grand a year enough to support a family at one point or another? Now with both our income, we can’t afford our apartment and have a kid that we have always wanted. We would like 3 ideally. But can barely keep our fridge full, heat on, gas in the car, and fulfill our interest in a hobby. At what point do the little guys stop surviving and start living?

Sorry for the rant, I’ve become increasingly bitter as of late.
