Tldr- if you have a legitimate interest in the field and feel stuck at entry level, and will put in some effort to advance, I’ll give you some guidance.
I see people posting the typical stuff here about being broke/miserable/trapped, and I occasionally look to see what they do in life. I’ve noticed a ton of people that are legitimately interested in tech, which is an extremely fast-growing industry (expected 12% growth this decade). Many of them are just sitting in help desk roles for years on end, or programming at home for fun but not capitalizing on the insane amount of money available in the field.
I’ve done cybersecurity/pentesting, etc at a few government agencies responsible for critical national infrastructure and hold 6 Sans certs (worth about $55k) and 4 degrees. I’d love to talk to people who GENUINELY want to get ahead in the field and put the effort into being successful. I’ve chatted with a few on different threads, but I’m extending the offer now for anyone who wants to share their plan and talk it over. There are so many misconceptions about qualifying skills, degrees vs certs, what languages to learn, etc….for example, did you know that out of 10k entry level jobs on LinkedIn paying $53k-$114k, only 24% wanted a bachelors degree but 83% wanted certs (with the most common being a $300 Sec+ cert)?
