Going up against the Restaurant Industry

I was fired from my bartending job several months ago when I asked for my sick pay to cover my insurance payment while I was out with covid. Turns out the GM/partial owner has never paid anyone their sick pay since my city put in a sick pay ordinance in 2017 where if a company doesn't have a sick pay policy you earn 1 hour for every 40 worked. Department of labor is involved and subpoena has been issued. This is terrifying, going up against a 26 billion dollar industry that still thinks it is ok to pay less than minimum wage. Viva la revolution. If you are in any sort of similar situation you are far from alone. Contact a lawyer, contact your local department of labor. This is probably going to get me blacklisted from bartending in my city ever again. Worth it.
