I had an interview today with an organization and three people from the department I am interviewing for. The interview was over lunch at a Mexican restaurant.
They asked weird questions and said some inappropriate things. Like “since this is a lunch interview and not work, we can ask you some juicy questions.” They asked if I had children, if I went to church, and my age, and if I was “political” and reacted in different ways to all my answers some good and bad. And they asked all these at the very beginning.
One woman asked: “what does your husband do? Well, besides you! I know you’re getting some!” 🥴
There is a LOT more I could go into, but essentially they all took a vote in front of me about if I’d be a good fit for the org and listed the pros and cons. One said I was a “huge gamble” and if they hired me it would be a risk but one he may be willing to take? Another said because I didn’t have children at 33, that concerned her because she felt I may not have the empathy needed for the position. But ultimately they all voted yes for me? Lol
Yes, I know, I need to RUN for the hills. Unfortunately I’m not in the financial position to do that. On the plus side, the position is entirely remote and “very independent” so I would not have to see these people often. After the interview, I’m worried they won’t hire me because of some of my answers to the questions they weren’t allowed to ask anyway. If I don’t get hired, is there anything I can do?
