I work in a medical facility, making $18.25 now.
I should be making roughly $37k a year.
After looking at my paycheck today and doing the numbers for 12 months, I only make $28k a year.
Yes I have benefits, but they equate to around $70 every 2 weeks.
I make close to what my salary used to be as as a host at Applebees basically, 8 years ago.
What the hell?
Edit: As some have commented; I understand there are taxes, but $9,000 of my salary that I work for is going to taxes, with taxes on every other single purchase I’d make – be it gas, food, clothes, amenities, etc. The point I’m trying to portray is exactly that: Taxes, inflation, etc. absolutely crush what sounds like a decent hourly pay. My, “what the hell” is in disbelief that I’m actually, essentially, making roughly $14/hr because we’re being taxed to absolute shit.
