Got a dollar raise and didn’t realize how much money I DON’T make.

I work in a medical facility, making $18.25 now. I should be making roughly $37k a year. After looking at my paycheck today and doing the numbers for 12 months, I only make $28k a year. Yes I have benefits, but they equate to around $70 every 2 weeks. I make close to what my salary used to be as as a host at Applebees basically, 8 years ago. What the hell? Edit: As some have commented; I understand there are taxes, but $9,000 of my salary that I work for is going to taxes, with taxes on every other single purchase I’d make – be it gas, food, clothes, amenities, etc. The point I’m trying to portray is exactly that: Taxes, inflation, etc. absolutely crush what sounds like a decent hourly pay.
