I worked as a caregiver and ceramics instructor for adults with disabilities. I rarely missed work, very good at the job, loved the clients and the clients loved me.
Our immediate supervisor resigned and the RUMOR was that she was quitting because she didn't get along with us staff.
Her last day was Jan 6th and at the end of my shift on Jan 9th, I was fired. I asked why. They told me “we're going in a different direction.” I asked again because I'd been working there for a year and a half and loved the place. They repeated the same generic response.
I got a whiff of an idea via another supervisor that the reason may have been that I “had a beef” with the other supervisor who quit.
The beef? I questioned her a few times. Once about me violating the dress code (I was wearing a beanie and then questioned her on why she's allowed to wear a bandana?). Another time I had a migraine and was trying to come into work but ended up calling in right before the start of my shift. Didn't realize that two other people had already called in. She was pissed and insisted I come in. I refused and took my PTO for the day. Got called into HR for that but I WAS NEVER WRITTEN UP!!
I was never written up for ANYTHING. EVER. I just questioned her on a few things and HR accused me of putting the company in peril for calling in. Even though two others also did. And again – I was never written up.
And that was 4-5 months before I got fired! To me, canning me immediately after the supervisor's last day seemed like retaliation. But I can't prove it.
I'm still baffled that this happened.
