Got in trouble for calling my boss “boss”

Sorry for the throwaway account. My coworkers know my reddit and I don't want anyone to find out I'm complaining about our manager So my boss is a pretty cool guy and treats us pretty well. He gives us sick days when we need it or leave for family matters, yearly/performance raises etc. I gave him the fitting and appropriate nickname of “boss” and he never seemed to mind it. Just some 20 minutes ago the manager pulled me aside to tell me I need to fix my conduct when talking to the boss of our company. So my boss is a pretty cool guy and treats us pretty well. He gives us sick days when we need it or leave for family matters, yearly/performance raises etc.

I gave him the fitting and appropriate nickname of “boss” and he never seemed to mind it. I use it in an affectionate and respectful manner as opposed to a sarcastic one. Just some 20 minutes ago the manager pulled me aside to tell me I need to fix my conduct when talking to the boss of our company. I had no idea what she meant and she said I was being very disrespectful and was mocking his position by calling him “boss”. Tbh I had no idea what to say other than he didn't seem to mind being called that and I assumed it was an honorific title if anything. The manager told me regardless it's informal and thus unacceptable in the world place and told me to fix my attitude. I'm pretty pissed off. Am I in the wrong here?
