I recently got sick with covid, it was no joke, I was real sick for two weeks, sick in bed sick. My boss was rolling out a new product, so of course, my illness was poor timing. I tried to help from the bed but was getting sicker, I needed REAL REST. He kept implying that I wasn't sick, and that I was trying to take time off because the weather in Los Angeles cleared up. Total lunacy.
So he hired a “friend” to step in and help him at more than my salary, and told me he used my salary to help pay him. It hurt financially, so a friend said to apply for unemployment, it turns out I was a independent contractor and not eligible (I've been on the job 10 months and this is the only time I have missed work) So my measly salary of $17 an hr, is even worse than I thought. I looked up what an IC is, I was definitely an employee. I don't know what to do. I am going in this morning to talk! He asked me to. I do not feel great mentally or physically. But I am going. He told me to be there exactly at 9 or to “stay home.” I am trying to not beat myself up for not asking more questions and taking this job. But, I needed the money.
