So, I currently work in data & evaluation for a nonprofit and have been at this role for just shy of a year.
Overall, I really enjoy it! My team of 3 is small and we get along very well. We all live in different parts of the country & were remote, up until recent. Our CEO mandated a return to office in July. Where I am located, none of my colleagues I work with live in the same state.
I made the ballsy/dumb/bold (you can call whatever you like lol) move of ignoring this & continued to WFH. I went months without anyone noticing until my boss’s boss came to my city and someone told him I wasn’t coming in to the office. This prompted my boss to casually shoot me a Slack message telling me and giving me a ‘heads up’ and that I should start going into to the office to meet the other departments…
I was annoyed but being so new, I accepted and did go into the office a few times since. But, every time I went in, literally no one was there!!
This prompted me to start applying to other jobs. I found a similar job to what I’m doing now, but it’s slightly more money AND it’s 100% remote.
This leaves me with a few ideas:
-
Ask my current role to negotiate my position to be 100% remote and match the new offer during my yearly review
-
If they say it can’t be remote, submit my 2 weeks
-
Forget trying to negotiate & submit my 2 weeks and let HR know the return to office policy is what drove me out
What would you all recommend? I hate being the new guy at jobs but I also absolutely love working from home & am miserable anytime I’m in office.
Open to any and all perspectives, thanks all
