So for context, I'm a 22 y/o college student. I've been struggling a lot with my mental and physical health this past year and it is has made it extremely difficult to work the job I have for 2 years now (cashiering). I have IBS and standing all day at a register was pretty excruciating and just a struggle.
Anyways, I started looking for jobs more suitable for me, which was a struggle considering I live in a small town. A woman came into the store where I worked and told me about the online customer service job she works. The job would be wfh for a few months and then eventually an office job. I literally cried at the idea of not having to stand all day. I looked up the company, talked to a real person, did a 2-week long interview process including a fingerprint. I even spoke to someone who's roommate worked the exact position, so it all seemed like a legitimate job.
They send me an email offering me a position and I'm thrilled! My orientation and first day is a week out from when I leave my cashier job. The NIGHT before orientation, I get an email saying they had to cancel orientation due to a sick “Team Leader,” and would reach out next week to reschedule. They gave me an Amazon gift card to apologize, which is nice but doesn't pay rent???
Well it's over 2 weeks later and no one ever reached out. Ever since they sent that cancelation email I have been desperately searching for a new job, may just go back to my cashier job if I am even able to. And if I do, now I have to explain this stupid situation.
I just feel so stupid and embarrassed. What a waste of time. Here I was, so excited to work a less physically strenuous job to just have it be a total waste of time and effort. A screening, an interview, a typing test, a practice email, a finger print scan later, and a lack of employment. Why have me do all that for nothing? I just feel so dumb, but also so angry.
