Got terminated because I got into a traffic accident.

On December 6th I was cycling home from a grocery run and when I wanted to make a turn, a moped going 6 miles/10km an hour over the speed limit (18miles/30km) T-boned me. My left foot got sandwiched between his front wheel and the frame of my bike; the pedal was bent 90° upwards. I needed an ambulance and ended up with stretched ankle bands, two large hematomas, and numerous muscle bruises and a bump on the head. I was in a wheelchair for 2 months and in crutches for another. The problem was that my contract expired in February. So as soon as they could get rid of me they did. I loved my job. It was just a simple dishwashing/janitorial job at an indoor playground that didn't pay very well, but I liked doing it. I had never actually liked a job before in my life. I always…

I loved my job. It was just a simple dishwashing/janitorial job at an indoor playground that didn't pay very well, but I liked doing it. I had never actually liked a job before in my life. I always filled in when they needed extra people, I came in early when asked, etc.

I know you're not supposed to be loyal to a business because they won't return the favor, but I thought this would be different. I got messages from both coworkers and management to ask how I was doing and if they could do anything for me. But at the end of January I received a very cold email stating that my contract would not be renewed…

I lost the only job I ever enjoyed doing because of something I had no control over. I have since then found employment elsewhere in retail, but I hate it here. From the minute I walk through the door I'm counting down the minutes for my shift to end. I haven't been this depressed in years. And to top it all off, my hematomas have gotten infected and hurts really bad at the end of the day. But I can't call in sick yet because I'm still on my probation period and I need this job because I can't afford not to work. I know I should get a job that doesn't require me to be on my feet all day, but no one will hire me for those jobs because I'm already 30 and my only work experience is manual labor. I also can't get an education for those jobs because I can't afford that.

Life genuinely sucks right now and I hate that I have to suffer like this just to have my bills paid and feed myself. I shouldn't have to choose money over my health, but I'm forced to. I don't know who I hate more. The company that fired me or the guy that hit me in the first place…
