Without revealing too much info about what I do, I package dry goods for a large company. Had 2 of my tickets take them a good hour each to send me at the start of the day. Then we had a clog higher up the building that slowed me way down for one ticket, causing me to have to take my lunch about 45 mins late. Then quickly the next break comes up.
I got told I should skip that break to make up for lost time. A few back and forths about how no one should have to do that, and finally I said, and yes, I'm aware this sounds cringy, “anyone who thinks breaks should be skipped is a slave to the corporate mindset, I am a human, not a robot, and I take my alotted breaks”. Not to mention, I'm diabetic and use breaks to hydrate and make sure my sugars stay in check.
I'm aware the guys on the radio may have just been joking, but I hate that mindset. I'm not skipping my breaks to hit your numbers, especially when every other night, our shift knocks it out of the park. Like, goal for a night may be 30 tons of product packaged on one line, and that line will regularly get 45+ tons. Also especially when 3 different times we were massively slowed down, was through no fault of my own. Why does this mindset exist? It's dumb.
